Japan Self-Defense Force

The Japan Self-Defense Forces (Japanese: 自衛隊), abbreviated as the JSDF and commonly known as the SDF, is the main military force of Japan. Established in 1954, the JSDF comprises of Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. It is tasked with protecting the nation of Japan against all threats. Due to Article 9, Japan is prohibited to wage war against external countries.

During the onset of the global outbreak, the JSDF was mobilized on day one, to several locations such as the Saitama Prefecture as a collective effort to contain the disease, which were being regarded as riots erupting in the nation. In the city of Tokyo, the Japanese government and the National Diet questioned the ability of the JSDF to contain the disorders. As a result, the police was dispatched to the Saitama Prefecture, and first encountered the infected while attempting to carry two deceased individuals into an ambulance.

The JSDF would begin large scale operations to relieve Tokonosu City, where the main series is based in, and as of Episode 11 the JSDF was still active, successfully managing to intercept ICBMs coming from the United States which were directed towards Japan. However, one of the vessels that was tasked of destroying the ICBMs became infested with the infected, therefore leading to one of the ICBMs detonating outside of Japan, interrupting all communications from the outside world. The JSDF activated countermeasures to proceed with the operations.
